INSTALLING - ABOUT A MINUTE

Put the app on your screen.

Builder Inspect is not in the App Store or Play Store. You open it once in your browser and then save it to your screen, where it behaves like any other app - and keeps working with no signal. Pick your device below.

iPad & iPhone Android Laptop & desktop

IPAD & IPHONE with Safari

  1. 1

Open the app link in Safari. If you tapped it inside WhatsApp or Mail, it opens in a mini-browser that cannot install - tap the share icon there and choose Open in Safari first.

  2. 2

Tap the Share button: the square with an arrow pointing up. On an iPad it sits top right, on an iPhone at the bottom of the screen.

  3. 3

Scroll down the grey list and choose Add to Home Screen. If you do not see it, scroll further - it sits below the sharing options.

  4. 4

Tap Add. The icon is now on your home screen. Always open it from that icon from now on, not from Safari - that is what keeps your surveys safe.

This step is not optional on an iPad. Safari clears website data after seven days without a visit, and that would take your surveys with it. Apps on the home screen are left alone.

ANDROID & XIAOMI with Chrome

  1. 1

Open the app link in Chrome. Opened it inside another app? Use that app's menu to open it in Chrome first.

  2. 2

Tap the ⋮ menu: three dots at the top right of Chrome.

  3. 3

Choose Install app, or Add to home screen if your phone words it that way.

  4. 4

Confirm. The icon is now on your home screen - open it from there from now on.

LAPTOP & DESKTOP with Edge or Chrome

  1. 1

Open the app in Edge or Chrome. You can start working straight away - installing just gives it its own window and icon.

  2. 2

Click the install icon at the right-hand end of the address bar - a small screen with a downward arrow. No icon? Open the browser menu and look for Install Builder Inspect.

  3. 3

Click Install in the little window that appears.

  4. 4

It now has its own window and its own icon in the Start menu or the Dock, with no browser tabs around it.

One last check, at home

Before you take it onto a scaffold: turn on airplane mode and open the app from its icon. It should start normally and show your projects. If it does, it will work on a site with no signal. And make a Backup ALLES file now and then, kept somewhere off the device - that is the only copy that does not live in the browser.
